History of West End Church In November 1921 a business man, Edward L. Dupuy, gave up his business in Blackstone Virginia and came to Hopewell. He and his family settled in the most neglected section of the then "ex-boom" town; rented an old store building and started a Sunday School. The attendance the first Sunday, November 15, 1941, was six. The Sunday School grew rapidly. Mrs. Dupuy conducted a week-day school. The store building was purchased and remodeled. Three years later, in January, 1924, a Church was organized. Mr. Dupuy was ordained and installed as pastor. He and Mrs. Dupuy labored here for eight years in love, faith, and prayer. God used them to lay the foundation for a great work, and today their Christian influence may be seen in the lives of many people in Hopewell.

In June, 1929, William E. Hill, Jr., a young student at Union Theological Seminary, was sent to serve as supply pastor. With him came a new supply of faith and energy. On September 9, 1931, he married Victoria Cromartie. Mr. Hill supplied until May 1932; then he was ordained and installed as full-time pastor. The Sunday School continued to grow. A new Sunday School building was erected, later the church was enlarged, then a second story on the Sunday School building. This work was done during a major depression. In those days of rapid growth, the Woman's Auxiliary flourished, a Young People's Organization was formed, a coordinated morning service was started, and the evening services were evangelistic. Thus many new members were brought into the church. |

A HISTORICAL CHURCH WEPC Affirms The Sola’s of the Protestant Reformation: Sola Scriptura The Bible is the sole written divine revelation from God and it alone can bind the conscience of believers absolutely because it is inerrant, infallible, and authoritative. Sola Fide Sinful man is justified by faith alone by the merit of Jesus Christ being imputed to a believer received by the gift of faith and is the sole ground for our acceptance by God and by which our sins are forgiven. Solo Christo Jesus Christ is both God and man and He alone is the mediator between God and men through His perfect and finished work of His life, death, and resurrection. Sola Gratia Salvation rests solely on the sovereign work of God’s grace as He freely and according to His purpose and for His own glory gives faith and repentance to believers. Soli Deo Gloria Gloria God alone deserves our worship and adoration because He alone is worthy to be praised and He alone will receive all the glory. For from Him and through Him and to Him are all things. “Without these five confessional statements--- Scripture alone, Christ alone, grace alone, faith alone, and glory to God alone---we do not have a true church, and certainly not one that will survive for very long. For how can any church be a true and faithful church if it does not stand for Scripture alone, is not committed to a biblical gospel, and does not exist for God's glory? A church without these convictions has ceased to be a true church, whatever else it may be.” (James M. Boice) |

West End Presbyterian Church (WEPC) being a congregation of the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA) is committed to the Scriptures, the Great Commission and the Reformed Faith. The vision for our church is: For God’s glory, WEPC desires to be a God-honoring, Christ-exalting, Holy Spirit-empowered community of authentic and loving Christians to reach our generation with the gospel. The core values of WEPC are: Worship—since God alone is worthy of our praise we seek to worship Him in spirit and truth (John 4:23-24). We desire to keep Him the object and focus of our worship making Him the prime audience (Romans 11:36). We desire to keep Him the subject of our worship making all the elements of worship to magnify Him. Therefore, true worship is the redeemed worshipping their Redeemer about their redemption (Revelation 4-5). Discipleship—since every Christian is to be thoroughly equipped in their faith we seek to disciple our members to actively grow to maturity so that they can understand who God is and what obedience He requires of His people (Ephesians 4:11-14; 2Timothy 3:15). Since all Christians are to actively minister to others we seek to equip our members to determine their spiritual gifts, to develop their spiritual gifts, and to delight in how God has gifted them (Romans 12; 1Corinthains 12). Outreach—since Christian’s posses the good news of what Jesus Christ did for us in His perfect life and sacrificial death we must be diligently sharing that message with those in Hopewell, the surrounding communities, our state, our nation, and the entire world through intentional outreach and missions (Matthew 28:18-20; Acts 1:8). Please visit these sites recommended by our pastors! “Two ways to live, the choice we all face.” “Do you know that you have eternal life?” |
